Through everything that’s happened this year both happy and otherwise, I found it difficult to take time to nurture our little kitchen garden – or even get it started if I’m honest. None of the new seeds I purchased last year made it from packet to plant and I ended up neglecting most of the things that’d survived the winter. But as I know a bit of a break was necessary, I’m using this failure to figure out how I’d like to do things differently going forward and fuel my efforts for future seasons. And while I will be starting some seeds for fall soon, I thought we’d take a photo tour for now to look back on a few of the things we’ve previously grown in our garden. Here they are…
Wonderfully sweet Sungold tomatoes scaling a wood and wire trellis
Overgrown and intertwined vines of cherries and Romas
Our Vivacious tomatoes before they ripened to a brilliant orange
Big, beautiful Party Time cucumbers that were meant to be snack-sized
Spanish lavender sitting beside a usually sunny garden seat
Pea pebbles and step stones surrounding our biggest garden bed…
…and a Baby Ames resting atop them earlier this year
A mixed mid-summer harvest including zinnias, peppers, tomatoes and kale
Gardener’s Delight tomatoes that truly live up to their name
Mocha Swirl sweet peppers perfect for snacking
Strawberries escaping over the side of the kids’ raised garden bed
A Danvers carrot destined for a simple veggie soup
A Butterkin from my first attempt at growing pumpkins
Present day Ames sitting peacefully on the porch
Hendrix holding our very first mini Piccolo watermelon
Another gorgeous gift from grandpa’s grapevine
Sunny marigolds growing in the kids’ garden
A plentiful canopy of Patio Baby eggplants
Strawberry Blonde marigolds putting on a show
That’s all for this post but I’ll provide updates over on Instagram as things get growing again! Please share some of your current garden plans, tips, thoughts or stories in the comments below…
